What conditions and issues can Somatics help with?

Somatics is in part a practice of mindfulness, breath and movement and as such helps the nervous system to wind down and come out of fight/flight/freeze mode allowing the 'rest, repair and digest' part of the nervous system to do its vital work.

It also gets the body moving where it is not moving efficiently, helping unload stressed/painful structures.  Some of the conditions below are not necessarily painful in themselves, but may contribute to maladaptive patterns and habits which cause inefficient use of the body. Muscles can then feel 'heavy' and become quick to fatigue, which can in turn lead to avoidance of certain movements such as bending, squatting, twisting, lifting, walking, climbing or running, and lack of resilience in sitting and standing. Efficient, full, easy, comfortable movement is relearned at the level of the brain and nervous system.  Movement maps in the brain are clarified and movement becomes more co-ordinated and better controlled.  Individuals become aware of habits that may be problematic and develop a range of movement techniques, options and strategies to unload structures and restore comfort..
